Poverty and Punchlines

Poverty & Punchlines Ottawa Show 2010

Canada Without Poverty created “Poverty & Punchlines”, and annual awareness and fundraising event held in various cities across Canada. Using the winning medium of comedy to draw more and more Canadians into poverty issues and Canada Without Poverty’s circle of supporters and activists, Poverty & Punchlines offers an open, approachable environment to learn more about social justice and our work.

Poverty & Punchlines features highly experienced professional comedians delivering an evening of laughter, with periods in each event for comments from Canada Without Poverty representatives concerning the issues and our recent activities. Pre- and post-show periods also provide opportunity for attendees to visit CWP displays, talk with staff or volunteers, become first-time or repeat donors, sign on to the Dignity for All Campaign or other initiatives etc.  Other highlights may include silent or live auctions, 50/50 draws and speeches from Board Members and Honorary Directors.

The inaugural Poverty & Punchlines was held in October 2010 in Ottawa, with renowned comedians Steve Patterson, Don Kelly, and Mary Walsh holding their own in from of the 450 people in attendance.
